Bernards High School has announced that Jon Simoneau will be their head football coach in 2008 at a board meeting this week. He replaces longtime coach Joe Milde.
Simoneau is a 1996 graduate of John F. Kennedy High where he played football and baseball. David Carmon, a 2001 JFK graduate and a former Mustangs' standout, will be the offensive coordinator. Simoneau had been the team's offensive coordinator.
Milde stepped down as head coach of the Mountaineers after eight years. His team made the sectional playoffs three times, including this past season when the Mountaineers qualified as a North 2 Group II school.
Milde, who has had one of the longest tenure of any Mountaineer football coach in their long history, has been affiliated with the team for 15 years -- seven as an assistant. He will continue to coach girls basketball and golf.
Jay Roussey, the head coach of the Ridge wrestling team the past eight years, has also stepped down. The Red Devils set a school record for dual meet wins with 20 this past season and also made the sectional playoffs for the first time since 1990. No replacement has been named, but assistant coach Steve Hendershot is expected to replace Roussey.

Too bad about Roussey. He had his kids improving all the time. What caused the Middlesex HS coach to step down?
