Local wrestlers at NCAA Tournament

Here's a list of former area high school wrestlers who've qualified for this weekend's NCAA Tournament in St. Louis.

125: Ross Gitomer (Virginia, Blair Academy, Hunterdon Central). He won the Atlantic Coast Conference title at Virginia. He's 37-11 and is a red shirt sophomore.

133: Billy Ashnault (Lock Haven, South Plainfield). He was beaten by his high school teammmate Jim Conroy (Pitt) in the finals of the EIWA. Ashnault, a freshman, is 12-15.
Jim Conroy (University of Pittsburgh). Conroy, a sophomore, is 17-11 after winning the EIWA title Saturday.

141: Kellen Russell (Michigan, Blair Academy, High Bridge). Russell was the Big 10 champion as a freshman. Russell is 25-5.

149: Eddie McCray (Gardner-Webb, South Plainfield). McCray, who transferred last fall from Virginia State to Gardner-Webb, got a wild card in the East Regional. He was third and is 7-3.

165: Zack Shanaman (Penn, Blair Academy, Pingry). The Bernards Township resident, a junior, was second at the EIWA Tournament. He's 20-5.

174: Alex Caruso (Lehigh, Watchung Hills). The Green Brook native, a red shirt freshman, is 24-12, having taken fourth place at the EIWA Tournament.

Caruso's high school teammate, Shane Riccio, now at Bucknell, got a wild card in the EIWA Tournament. He's 25-9.
