Consider -- District 17 had one - ONE! -- place winner at the NJSIAA Wrestling Tournament. And where was he from? Hopewell Valley. Senior George Saliba was fourth at 189. Good for HoVal and Mercer County, but for District 17? Not good.

Hunterdon County didn't have a single place winner, something that wasn't entirely surprising. Delaware Valley senior 135 pounder Rich Gebert was the closest to making it. Gebert lost to Highland's Matt Catalano 6-5 in the quarterfinals. He would have been in the semifinals and would have sealed at least a fifth/sixth place.

Gebert was beaten 5-1 by Franklin freshman Colin Hewitt in a wrestleback and eliminated from medal contention. Hewitt beat Gebert for the region title a week ago Saturday.
