South Plainfield at Delaware Valley

The first big wrestling dual meet of the season comes Thursday night at Delaware Valley High School in Alexandria Township as Delaware Valley (5-0) plays host to South Plainfield (6-4). South Plainfield is the No. 1 ranked team in the Courier News area, while Delaware Valley is ranked No. 2.

Match time is 7 p.m.

Notes: Delaware Valley beat South Plainfield 36-22 last year as Sigafoos beat Ashnault 3-1, Gebert beat Hunt 9-5 and LaFevre beat Jakubik 10-4 in three big bouts.
South Plainfield won in the team's three previous meetings -- 34-21 in 2005, 32-21 in '04 and 36-30 in '03. Delaware Valley won 37-20 in 2002, but South Plainfield won in '01 36-26 and beat Delaware Valley 38-19 in the Central Jersey Group II final in 2000.
South Plainfield won the state Group III title last year, while Delaware Valley was runner-up to Kittatinny in Group II.
This could be the first of two meetings between Delaware Valley and South Plainfield since both schools are now back together in Central Jersey Group II.
