Monday wrestling thoughts

Scotch Plains-Fanwood beat Hanover Park 34-25, but lost to Brearley 40-25 at Hanover Park Saturday morning in a triangular meet.

The Scotch Plains-Fanwood match with Brearley started at 275 and the Raiders trailed just 27-25 after Dave DeNichilo pinned Anthony Evans at 160. But the Raiders lost a regular decision at 171, a major decision loss at 189 and Brearley's Jesse Boyden pinned junior Keith Baker at 215 to close it out. Umar Tamarov beat Mike Zamzam 5-2 at 171 to give Brearley a 30-25 lead.

A good effort by the Raiders, who have a big home meet Friday night with Rahway at 7.

Some of the Raiders leading wrestlers are 112-pounder Tristan Bundy (10-4), 125-pounder Sal Gano (17-0), 130-pounder Mike Ferrera (11-6), 135-pounder Ricky Olsson (15-3), 145-pounder Pat Mineo (16-1), 152-pounder Trevor Cannon (12-6), DeNichilo (13-2), Zamzam (11-4) and Baker (12-2). John Loomis (3-0) had a fall and 10-8 win at the tri meet.
