Del Val-Central, and other thoughts

Hackettstown stopped Delaware Valley's 45-match Skyland Conference Raritan Division winning streak Thursday night at Delaware Valley. I had written in Monday's paper that South Plainfield was looking at a brutal week this week, but Del Val's wasn't much better: Hunterdon Central Wednesday night, Hackettstown Thursday night and a tri meet with Bergen Catholic and High Point Saturday.

South Plainfield beat Hackettstown Monday night, knocked off Old Bridge Wednesday night and now prepares for Saturday's killer quad at Kittatinny with North Warren and Southern Regional.

Hunterdon Central didn't get enough bonus points from its upper weights to knock off Delaware Valley Wednesday night, but the Red Devils have closed the gap. Junior Conor Steifken had a big overtime win at 285 for the Terriers. P.J. Steinbeiser wrestled well against Central's unbeaten Pat Strizki at 125. Strizki was bumped up a weight and beat Steinbeiser 9-3.

Somerville head coach Brent McGuinness told me that District 18 champ and Region 5 runner-up Rob Bolomey should be back next week.

Look for our first Courier News wrestling podcast. Our first guests were Bridgewater-Raritan head coach Greg Evans and senior 135-pounder Adam Friedman. The podcast should be lup on our site (www.c-n.com) sometime Friday.
